THE CENTERED WORKSHOP
CURATED BY TFDA DANCER BAILEY HUGHES
FACILITATED BY FACULTY MEMBER EMILY CROUCH
A MESSAGE FROM BAILEY:
My name is Bailey Hughes, and I am a current high school junior in my eighth year of dancing with The Floor. Over the years, this studio has given me confidence, support, and a sense of belonging—especially in moments when I felt different or unsure of myself. Dance has always been a passion, but as I’ve moved through middle and high school, it has also become a space for emotional grounding, reflection, and healing. I leave every class feeling clearer, stronger, and more connected thanks to the movement and the community here.
Outside of dance, I’m deeply committed to expanding access to youth mental health resources. I am in my second year as a teen advisor with the Here App, a free and anonymous space for teens seeking support from trained peers. I also serve on the Legislative Committee of the Teen Advisory Committee with the UCLA Friends of the Semel Institute, advocating for mental health programming in schools.
As I navigated the pressures of junior year—academics, test prep, planning for the future—I became increasingly aware of how universal stress and emotional challenges are for students of all ages. That reflection sparked the idea for a wellness workshop at The Floor: a safe space where students can move, breathe, reflect, and connect. With Jen’s support, I’m thrilled to launch this program and hope it’s meaningful for your family.
